Drennan ESP Two Piece Drenchware Suit
by Kieron Axten.

One-piece suits are great for day sessions, but if you’re in and out of a sleeping bag during the rain then they are not too clever. A pair of waterproof trousers and a decent jacket make much more sense.

When I first saw the Drennan E.S.P. separates in the flesh, I just knew I had to have them, in fact I bought a set there and then.

They are so light and comfortable that manoeuvring is not a problem. They are suitable for all year round protection, but during the colder months you may want to wear something like an all in one fleece underneath (something to bear in mind when choosing your size). I found the large was a generous fit and suited me perfectly, even with my “Teletubby” suit on underneath. I recommend you try before you buy.

The suit is very well made from a tough breathable material and lined with 100% Polyester. A special “shake dry” outer coating and taped seams ensures 100% waterproofing. I can vouch for this after running my arm under the tap half an hour ago and it is now bone dry. According to the label it is hand washable to 30 degrees, the suit not my arm! Whether it would still retain its waterproofing qualities after washing I am not sure.

The fleece lined hand warmer pockets on the jacket are a cosy touch having vertical entry flaps with Velcro fastenings. Sewn to the front of these are extra horizontal entry pockets with “none” Velcro flaps just like the smaller breast pocket, which has the E.S.P. logo proudly embroidered on it. A vertical entry zip pocket can also be found on the inside left of the jacket, which I find useful for valuables and such like.

The sweatshirt type inner cuffs are loosely elasticated while the outside ones can be closed in a couple of inches using poppers.

The two way zip looks robust and unlikely to break, and can be zipped right up to mouth level and the fleece line collar nicely baffles your neck.

The “pop on” hood can be clipped shut round the front of your mouth and pulled tight round your head using the drawstring and toggles, just leaving your eyes and nose to get wet…ahhh!

The trousers have an elasticated waste and also have adjustable Velcro straps if you are lucky enough to need them tightening. A good-size zipped back pocket is present, as is the E.S.P. logo, being displayed horizontally on the top of the left leg.

The leg bottoms have 15” zips which when opened reveal a fold in the material making the legs wide enough to fit over most foot ware.

I am so confident in these waterproofs that I almost enjoy going out in the rain now. I recently went on a baiting up and feature finding visit to my syndicate water in a torrential downpour. Something that I would not have done previously.

Highly recommended, get out there!
