Full Time Employment - South Staffordshire Housing Association - Web Developer / Designer
W3C valid CSS and XHTML plus AAA compliance For a period of 1.5 years I was employed (full time) as Web Designer / Developer by South Staffordshire Housing Association. I worked alongside a systems developer to rebuid the Association website using ASP.NET, Visual Studio and SQL Server. Largely thanks to my knowledge of design principles - not only did we successfully deliver a solution to the business and users needs - we also acheived AAA Web Content Accessibility Compliance and W3C validated XHTML and CSS. The layout and navigation is completely CSS and fluid to accommodate dynamic content and varying screen resolutions. It was tested in all major browsers and completely functional with Javascript disabled. |

Wolverhampton Uni (Year 3) - Multimedia Project 2 - Assignment 2
The Carp Anglers' Oracle - Project Review. My final year project review gave everything the brief had asked for and all the nescessary supporting information to show the effort that I had put in to clinching my first. A colleague of mine recently commented that an A16 grade for a final year Multimedia Project is practically unheard of! |

Wolverhampton Uni (Year 3) - Multimedia Project 2 - Assignment 1
The Carp Anglers' Oracle - DVD ROM. As part of my final year project I delivered the final multimedia artefact on DVD, along with a video (file) demonstration of the artefact. The program itself was quite satisfactory as proof of concept and principally very sound indeed. Just to disclaim - the example colour scheme and banner used in the GUI resembles that used by Angling Lines as I had them in mind as the kind of company to endorse such a product. |

Wolverhampton Uni (Year 3) - Distributed Multimedia - Assignment 2
This Assignment gave me the opportunity to develop the CD shop further by adding stacks of additional features such as search keyword hilighting, dynamic track listings and audio samples. Log In to the admin area by typing in 'admin' twice to see that CD selections are recorded and that the user subscription form actually works. This work is Bobby AAA and W3C Certified. |

Wolverhampton Uni (Year 3) - Distributed Multimedia - Assignment 1
A prototype Retail Web Site using ASP to deliver a searchable database of CDs with paged recordsets and selectable items. I am particularly proud of my use of CSS and Sever Includes files to achieve truly flexible and easy to manage content as well as the ease in which I took to programming in VB Script. |

|
Wolverhampton Uni (Year 2) - Dynamic Web Page Creation - Assignment 1
A steep introduction to Active Server Page Technology and VB Scripting left many students panic stricken, but I rose to the challenge and soon mastered data validation using regular expressions. Incorporating professional coding and interactive design practices to create a user form - I scored a maximum of A16, my third web site project to do so. |

Wolverhampton Uni (Year 1) - Web Authoring - Assignment 2
Create a web site for a firm that supplies goods and/or services for sale to the public / ..businesslike and visually attractive etc. This is a very similar design to the last one but for a business and with an interactive form. I explored an original idea my friend and I once had for a business. |

Wolverhampton Uni (Year 3) - Personal Portfolio - Assignment 2
I had intended to develop the database solution you are looking at now further for this project, but the submission was CD based so I had to turn this site around in just a few days to meet the deadline. I think the simple design and effort to meet W3C compliance may have helped clinched the A15. |

Wolverhampton Uni (Year 3) - Personal Portfolio - Assignment 1
A lot of thought went into my personal logo to ecompass my views on inclusive design by depicting a global user. It was tested at various stages and in many forms including business cards, CD covers, fav and desktop icons. It was also tested through various color filters to consider people with visual impairments. The evolutionary process was documented and presented in a bound folder. |

Wolverhampton Uni (Year 3) - XML and Web Meta Tag Language - Assignment 2
The Andalucian Villas Site was used to demonstrate XML values being retrieved and stored to a database every hour. This value is then used to calculate and display up to date currency conversions. An XML application using up to date weather information was also also successfully incorporated. |

Wolverhampton Uni (Year 3) - XML and Web Meta Tag Language - Assignment 1
This site shows an XML file with an external DTD being processed using JavaScript to bind data to html elements, an example of an RSS feed from the BBC web site being processed by an ASP script and an example of how XML files can be rendered for viewing directly in the browser using the standard known as Existensible Style sheet Language Transformations. |

Another revelation has revealed a strength in my programming that not even I understand, even though the basics of yet another language 'Structured Query Language' was called for - I found myself quite easily programming my first database driven web pages using my own logic, and was gladly able to give advice to other members of the class. |

The Carp Anglers' Oracle - Building Prototypes and Testing. This is all documented in the final review - but the prototypes and authentic testing proved to be really valuable and quite an eye opener to me proffesionally. The first module was about planning and design - gant charts, mood boards, interaction charts and tutorials were all contributing factors for a good grade. |

The Carp Anglers' Oracle - Concept and Written Proposal. Surprisingly - this process was one of the most difficult times I experienced while at Uni! It was hard to find a compromise between what I wanted to do vocationally and personally - and what I thought my lecturer expected from me. But while my final year project was NOT web based - my concept shone in terms of emersiveness, interaction and use of multimedia elements. |

Wolverhampton Uni (Year 3) - Research Essay
The Blind Leading The Blind - Responsibilities within the web site industry to design inclusively for elderly / impaired users. "Symptoms of aging may well be aggravated by the current state of the majority of web sites out there. It is no wonder that older people generally seem to struggle to adapt this wonderful, potentially empowering medium, when there is a very real barrier to entry so predominantly in place. Any learned helplessness is only fortified by the false causality continually imposed by the largely inaccessible World Wide Web." |

Work Tasks and Personal Interest - Digital Video Editing
At work I have had to edit hours of video footage for corporate away days using Adobe Premiere and Pinnacle Studio. Personal Interest - Music Production, Editing and Recording
I guess my interest in computers began in the 80's along with synth pop as I was fascinated with music technology. As home computing evolved I owned them all from the ZX Spectrum, Atari ST, Commodore 64 and eventually a PC and a whole array of synthesizers, samplers and drum machines along the way. Whilst I soon got to grips with the technical aspect - I also realised that I would never make me a living from music and turned to other forms of creative computing. However my interest in music and sound design remains and holds a valid area of experience in my current vocation. Here are some samples of my music in MP3 format;
